There weren’t a lot of announcements during Apple’s ‘Scary Fast’ event, but the ones we did get were really cool. We have listed them for you.
Apple event ‘Scary Fast’: all announcements
It was very late (or early) on Monday night when Apple came up with an event specifically for Macs. During this event, Apple made some nice announcements and showed off a number of new Macs.
The event revolved entirely around the new M3 chips. This is the successor to the M2 chip (and before that the M1 chip). This is Apple’s own super-fast chip and all new Macs that Apple announced during this event will have (a variant) of this chip.
iMac 2023: The best all-in-one Mac just got better
We secretly already knew it, but Apple has announced a new version of the iMac. This iMac 2023 actually has one really big change, and that is the new M3 chip. According to Apple, this makes it twice as fast as the previous iMac. If you still have an iMac with an Intel chip, it’s even 2.5 times faster than the 27-inch model (and even 4.5 times faster than the 21.5-inch model).
In addition, this iMac 2023 supports up to 24 GB of RAM. And the new M3 chip brings special graphics features to the iMac, such as ray tracing (for extra realistic light and shadow effects in games). The new iMac 2023 also has WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
MacBook Pro: fast, faster, fastest
There were more announcements during the Apple event than just the iMac. Apple also showed off a new MacBook Pro. The most important change in the MacBook Pro 2023 is the new M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chip. This has made the laptop faster and the battery life slightly better. And perhaps the best news: Apple’s most expensive MacBook has also become cheaper.
With the new laptop you can choose from the M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chip. This is striking, because with the MacBook Pro you previously only had a choice of the M2 Pro and the M2 Max chip. The new M3 chip has 8 cores, 10 GPU cores and up to 24 GB of memory.
The new M3 chips have significantly improved the battery life of the MacBook Pro 2023. With the standard M3 chip, the laptop lasts up to 22 hours. Do you choose the MacBook Pro 2023 with a 14-inch screen and an M3 Pro or an M3 Max chip? Then the battery life is up to 18 hours. With the 16-inch version that is four hours longer, you can use up to 22 hours with a battery.
Other than that, there is not much different with the MacBook Pro. The screen has become slightly brighter (600 nits) and a new color has been added (space black). This new color only comes to the MacBook Pro with an M3 Pro or M3 Max chip, Apple is sticking to space gray for the standard M3 chip. In addition, the laptop is available in a silver color. That color is available in all versions.
