Apple is working on a new operating system that will be released later this year, so we tell everything you need to know about the new ‘Homeos’.
Apple is coming this year with ‘Homeos’
There is of course a good reason that Apple comes with a brand new software platform and that reason is a new product. We have known for a while that Apple is planning to market a Smart Display or Homepad. It is a kind of cross between an iPad and a HomePod and it looks like the device is going to run on the new ‘Homeos’.
According to Mark Gurman van Bloomberg, Homeos will show many similarities with the existing Apple software platforms, but then adapted to the needs of modern households. We list what we know so far.

Home screen
Homeos will probably get an adjustable home screen, just like iOS and iPados.
On the home screen you can:
- Add widgets to, for example, follow the weather, shares and appointments.
- Open apps in a similar way than in iOS.
- Use a dock for your favorite apps.
- Getting access to the operation of your Smart Home.
All this must feel very familiar and look like this for anyone who has an iPhone or iPad.

Siri and Apple Intelligence
Siri is also becoming an essential part of Homeos. According to Gurman, Homeos and the Homepad are designed to Siri and Apple Intelligence bring to life in a new way. It will be all that Siri can now do on a HomePod Plus all upgrades that Siri will still get in iOS (such as more awareness and personal context). Moreover, Siri will be able to take action within and between your apps.
Apps in Homeos
Gurman does not think that an App Store will be available, at least not immediately.
He does expect that different built -in Apple apps will be offered. There may be more, but we expect minimal facetime, notes, agenda, memories, home, safari, settings, music, TV+, podcasts, weather and photos.
Dynamic reaction to the distance from users to Homepad
The photos app will probably have a special mode in Homeos for displaying a slide show, similar to a screensaver. For example, photos are shown when you have been removed from the Homepad. According to Gurman, the Homepad gets sensors to determine how close someone is. Functions can then be adjusted accordingly.
Apple Homeos: iOS for home
For the time being it seems that Homeos resembles iOS, but then focused on a smart home. If that is true, it means that the billions of iPhone and iPad users of the moment can immediately work seamlessly with it. That makes the homepad that comes later this year for many an even more attractive option. When there is more clear about Homeos or the Homepad, you naturally read it immediately iPhoned!
