Last year a rumor appeared that stated that Apple is working on a smart doorbell with Face ID. There are now new rumors.
Apple is working on smart doorbell with Face ID
A few months ago Mark Gurman reported Van Bloomberg that Apple was working on the development of a smart doorbell and a lock with Face ID. He said the doorbell would connect wirelessly to a compatible night lock. Now X user Kosutami shares an alleged new function that Apple is planting on the doorbell: Magsafe.
On certain iPhones you can easily attach a charger or other accessories with Magsafe. Magsafe support on the smart doorbell of Apple suggests that it is possible to wirelessly charge the doorbell, which probably has a non-removable battery. It is unclear whether the doorbell will also receive a USB-C port for charging wired. Charging via Magsafe is handy, but you usually only have to charge smart doorbells a few times a year.
The only other option we can think of is that the smart doorbell from Apple gets a magsafe back plate. With that you could easily remove and confirm the doorbell. But that would really be too sensitive to theft, so that option is losing. According to Gurman, Apple’s doorbell will be on the market at the earliest in 2026, so hopefully there will be rumors that paint a clearer picture.

Smart Home products
The biggest competitor of Apple in this area is Ring, which was taken over by Amazon in 2018. Apple will probably promote the privacy and safety benefits of its own smart doorbell. There is already a HomeKit Secure Video Service with end-to-end encryption for storing images in iCloud. And the doorbell could have a secure enclave (a secure chip that safely stores encryption keys and other private data).
It has long looked like Apple has plans to take a bigger step in the Smart Home world in the coming years. For example, we expect a Smart Home-Hub next to this Apple doorbell this year. And according to rumors, the company also has plans for its own homekit camera for indoors, which can compete with products such as the Logitech Circle View.
Kosutami
Kosutami is best known as a collector of Prototype Apple hardware, but occasionally shares accurate information about future Apple products. For example, that the iPhone 16 Pro would be equipped with a metal -headed battery, about 10 months before the device was launched. We also saw an Apple Watch band that is made from the controversial fairwoven material early on. On the other hand, Kosutami was wrong when he said that the AirPods Pro 3 would be on the market in August 2024. Whether he is right about Magsafe in the smart doorbell of Apple will learn time.
