Apple is working on major changes for the iPhone, because the phone gets a completely new design according to rumors. We already know this!
New design for the iPhone
There are major changes to the iPhone! According to the usually reliable Apple analyst Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a new design for the smartphone. This year, changes in the design of the iPhone are already expected, because Apple is introducing an adapted camera island at the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to rumors, the camera island is much larger, in the form of a rectangle.
Many more changes are expected with the iPhone 17 Air, because this will be Apple’s thinnest smartphone ever. The iPhone is probably even thinner than the iPad Pro 2024, which is currently Apple’s thinnest device. According to Mark Gurman, this model applies as an example for future iPhones, because Apple is working on many more changes. We only see this in 2027, when the iPhone celebrates the twentieth birthday.
iPhone exists 20 years
In 2027 it will be twenty years since Apple introduced the iPhone. The ten -year anniversary was celebrated in 2017 with a completely new design for the iPhone X. According to Gurman, Apple is again preparing a new design for the next anniversary. That means that the iPhone 19 Pro becomes completely different. Gurman expects that much more glass will be used in the housing of that iPhone, so that the device may consist entirely of glass. This is in line with earlier patents that Apple has requested.
The much thinner iPhone 17 Air is a first step in the direction of the new glass design. It is quite possible that this thinner design will return to the iPhone 19 Pro. Yet there is still much unclear about the renewed design, there are questions about the sustainability and possibilities to repair a glass iPhone. Apple still has enough time to solve these issues, because the iPhone 19 Pro will only be published in 2027.
iPhone 17 is already becoming different
Apple is therefore working on major changes for the iPhone, which will be released in 2027. In the meantime we will probably see a number of small adjustments to the smartphone. This year, the camera island will be different with the iPhone 17 Pro. We may also see adjustments to the Dynamic Island, because Apple is working on a new Face ID sensor. The Dynamic Island therefore becomes more compact or even disappears completely.
The adapted camera island, smaller Dynamic Island and the thinnest iPhone ever are all changes that Apple is already making in the coming period. The iPhone Fold is also said to appear in 2026. With the iPhone 19 Pro, the company goes one step further, with a glass housing and probably more adjustments. This year we get a better idea what changes we can expect if the iPhone 17 Air appears.
