Apple Maps has received a major update with new features. We list the changes for you!
Apple Maps: these are the new features
It took a while, but now we also have a few cool features in Apple Maps in the Benelux. The upgrade for Apple’s Maps app was also necessary, because many functions were only available abroad.
When you open the app for the first time on your iPhone or iPad, you immediately notice the new look. Gone is the predominantly brown and beige color. The maps have more color and the way in the cities is now easier to find. When you zoom in, the maps also have much more detail, but there are still many places where it feels rather ’empty’.
Looking around streets (Apple Look Around)
Do you know Street View? In Google Maps you can look around in 3D. Of course, Apple Maps couldn’t stay behind and this is one of the new features that is now being added. Unfortunately, it is not yet available in all cities, but more locations will undoubtedly be added.
To look around streets (at the cities that have it) tap the icon with the binoculars at the bottom of the map. You can then look around in the image that appeared.
Car navigation has received a major update in Apple Maps
Navigation apps are the most used in the car and we have to admit, Apple Maps wasn’t always very good at that. Fortunately, that is now changing, because the car navigation has also improved considerably. You will now see directions for the lane and you will receive notifications when you approach a speed camera.
Cycling routes: still not available
Despite the new features of Apple Maps, we still miss an important part. Apple Maps still doesn’t have good cycling routes. Now when you try to plan a route by bike, you still get ‘Cycle route not available’. Even in large cities (such as Amsterdam) you will still see this message. That really can’t be done anymore, can it, Apple?
New features not immediately available to everyone
The new features for Apple Maps will be available during the day (Thursday, December 15). So you may not be able to get started with the new features right away. Apple Maps retrieves the necessary data itself, so you don’t have to install an update yourself.
