Apple may be working on a drowning warning system for the Apple Watch

In a new patent Apple describes a new feature that they may want to introduce in a future Apple Watch. It would be a kind of alarm system that is activated when the wearer is in danger of drowning.

Through all kinds of sensors, patterns and measurements, the Apple Watch may soon be able to recognize when a person is in danger and may be drowning. Bystanders are then alerted so that they can help.

Apple Watch drowning detection

A patent filed by Apple shows how bystanders can be alerted when an Apple Watch wearer is in danger of drowning. Apple is apparently working on a way to recognize when a person in the water is in danger.

For example, Apple has mapped normal swimming behavior and other measurements are also used to make predictions. The system registers, among other things, when the heart rate suddenly becomes abnormal, the oxygen in the blood drops and the arms make strange movements.

By recognizing patterns, the Apple Watch may be able to recognize in the future when someone is drowning. Of course, the watch itself cannot help you, but it is able to send a notification to people around you. Perhaps the Apple Watch itself will also sound an alarm, for example the siren of the Apple Watch Ultra.

Lifesaving features

It is not yet certain when Apple will add drowning detection to the Apple Watch. For the time being, this is still a patent and the company may need more research and data before they can safely add the function to the smart watch.

Until then, fortunately you can use even more smart and life-saving functions such as fall detection, crash detection, SOS emergency notification, strange heartbeat detection and more.
