Apple Music rolls out its own transfer service: This is how you take your music to Apple

Apple Music has rolled out its own transfer service with which users can transfer their stored music and playlists directly from the Settings app to the iPhone from other music services to Apple Music. This transfer service is a built -in functionality within the music application, with which you can easily switch between streaming services.

In 2024 this transfer service was already available in a select number of countries, including Australia. Since September 2025, the service has been available in several countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium. We explain how you can switch from, among others, Spotify, YouTube Music, Deezer, etc. to Apple Music.

The transfer service makes it possible to directly import playlists, albums and stored music that are on services such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer, Tidal and YouTube Music to Apple Music. Previously this happened mainly through external services that sometimes charged costs, but Apple has now built this in collaboration with the existing Songshift Service, which specializes in music library transfers.

That’s how it works

The function can be found in the Settings app for iPhone and iPad, follow the steps below to start transferring music.

  • Open settings
  • Go to ‘Apps’
  • Tap ‘music’
  • Choose the option ‘Transfer music from other services’
  • Select the desired music service and log in

Then select the music and playlists that you want to import into Apple’s streaming service. Apple Music then tries to match the songs in the play lists with its own music library. If a number does not match, the app indicates this so that the user can choose an alternative or ignore the number.

What is being transferred?

  • Only playlists put together by users are included. Streaming services composed or recommended playlists are not transferred.
  • These are playlists, albums and stored music, not about podcasts or other media.
  • If songs cannot be found in Apple Music, they will be marked for checking.
  • There is a period of thirty days in which you can correct missing numbers before a new transfer can be started.

This transfer service offers great added value for users who, for example, are dissatisfied with their current streaming service or are looking for better integration within the Apple ecosystem, and thereby retain their music library without interruptions or losses
