Apple of the Eye #26: Doggy Dating is Essential for Any New Dog Owner

There are a ton of apps for dog owners, but DoggyDating does something special that makes the app feel indispensable. Read our DoggyDating review now.

DoggyDating review

Raising a dog is not easy. There are of course dog schools to visit and on the internet you will find countless videos and other tips. But that doesn’t solve everything. The DoggyDating app has proved indispensable for me.

As the name implies, the focus of the app is planning dates between dogs. That’s not about dates like on Tinder, but about play or walking dates. So you don’t have to swipe left or right on that labrador with beautiful brown eyes, but propose a location and time and choose who can participate.

Dates

For young puppies it is important to socialize them with other dogs so they don’t get scared. But it is not easy for everyone to meet other social dogs. For example, I asked all the owners on the street, but each one of them said that their dog is not good with others.

After downloading the app, I had several dates with fun, sociable dogs in no time. The friendliest people wanted to drive to my hometown by car purely to help socialize my pup. That’s because all users of the app have something in common: they love dogs and only want the best for these animals.

DoggyAssist

The app therefore has some useful sections. My most used part these days is the ‘DoggyAssist’. In this, dog owners ask each other for advice about specific situations. Many dog owners run into the same situations and can therefore give advice as experienced experts.

A peek into DoggyAssist and I see someone looking to learn new commands, someone seeking advice on a good water blower, dental care questions, and tips on traveling with a dog. These are situations that you may not have thought about before, or where you may be able to give good advice yourself.

Of course it is also a place where many people think they know better. Well-intentioned advice can be burned off if someone else has learned that a different tactic is better. But you get that at any place where people with a specific passion start a conversation.

Not perfect

The app is far from perfect. For example, the ease of use and design can still be tinkered with. It also happens regularly that no notifications of private messages appear.

The makers also clearly realize that the app is popular, and are therefore going more commercially. Recently, the ‘DoggyDiscounts’ section has been added with offers, but that is mainly a disguised advertising corner.

It is nice that recently ‘DoggyAlert’ has also been added. Reports about missing dogs can be found here. You can enter a missing dog there, or indicate that you have spotted a missing dog. The heart of the app is therefore in the right place.
