Through these steps we explain how you can recognize whether you can pay via Apple Pay at the cash register, but how do you actually do that? Well, that’s quite simple and we’ll explain it to you in detail.
Pay with your iPhone
Apple’s payment service is available on the iPhone 6 (Plus) or later and the iPhone SE. In addition, a difference is made between an iPhone with Touch ID (fingerprint scanner) and Face ID (facial recognition). Before you can pay, you must first add your payment card to the Wallet app. You can read how to do this in the featured article below.
Make Apple Pay payments via Face ID
- Look at your iPhone while briefly pressing the side button twice
- Your iPhone will be unlocked and Apple Pay will be activated
- Your standard Apple Pay payment card becomes active immediately or open a different one
- Place the top of your iPhone next to/on the payment terminal
- Wait for the payment to be completed
Once payment is confirmed, you will feel your iPhone vibrate slightly and your lock screen will show up again. By looking at your iPhone, Face ID is immediately activated and your face is scanned. If the iPhone cannot recognize you, it will ask for your passcode. Payment will only be made once you have confirmed your identity, not before.
Pay via Touch ID
- Place your finger on the Home button for Touch ID
- Hold the top of your iPhone next to/on the payment terminal
- A connection is made immediately
- Your fingerprint checked
- Payment is made using your standard card
Once payment is confirmed, you will feel your iPhone vibrate slightly and your lock screen will show up again. Using your fingerprint you can confirm your identity, if Touch ID does not work, you can enter your iPhone passcode to make the payment. Payment will only be made once you have confirmed your identity, not before.
Activate payment card earlier via Touch ID
Would you like to activate your payment card while queuing? Make sure your iPhone is locked, then press the Home button twice from the Lock screen. Your card will be activated and you can immediately make a payment at a payment terminal.
Choose another payment card for Touch ID
If you have linked multiple cards and you want to use a different card, hold your iPhone next to the payment terminal without placing your finger on the home button. First choose a card and then place your finger on the home button to activate Touch ID and complete the payment.
Also suitable for large amounts
Apple Pay also allows you to pay large amounts because it uses biometric authentication, such as facial recognition (Face ID) or fingerprints (Touch ID). This adds an extra layer of security. This verification method makes it possible to pay contactless without limits, because you actually confirm your identity before making the payment. With traditional debit cards you often have to enter your PIN code or there is a limit on contactless payments.
Pay with Apple Watch
Of course you can also pay with Apple Pay via an Apple Watch. All you have to do is press the side button twice. The payment card will be activated immediately and you can hold the Watch next to the payment terminal.
