Apple presents watchOS 8: Apple Watch gets even sportier

Apple officially unveiled watchOS 8 during the WWDC 2021 keynote. Here are the main improvements coming to the Apple Watch this fall.

The Apple Watch will receive another major software makeover this fall: Apple will then release watchOS 8, the next major update for the smartwatch. watchOS 8 refocuses on health.

For example, the Breathing app is being adapted and Apple comes with the Mindfulness app, with a new animation that you can use to control your breathing. In addition, your Apple Watch can measure your heart rate when you sleep, with all information stored in the Health app. In addition, two new workouts are coming to watchOS 8: tai chi and pilates.

In addition, watchOS comes with a new watchface, where portrait photos are shown on your watch face. It works simple: the face of the person in the photo is extra visible because the background is blurred. You can also turn the Digital Crown to zoom slightly on your watch face. The Photos app on the Apple Watch has also been renewed, making it easy to send snapshots via the Mail and Messages app from your smartwatch. A Reminders feature is also coming to the application.

It also becomes easier and nicer to send messages on your Apple Watch. This way you can form words by simply tapping them. You can also more easily send emoji and photos from your smartwatch.

A lot of small improvements have also been made. For example, you can now set multiple timers at the same time, there will be a Contacts app for your phone book and a Tips app that helps you discover your new smartwatch. Furthermore, more apps will soon be able to use the always-on functionality of the Apple Watch.

When is watchOS 8 coming out?

watchOS 8 will be released in the fall of 2021, probably at the same time as the Apple Watch Series 7. Before that, several beta versions will first appear. The first watchOS 8 beta will likely be available sometime this week, though it’s only intended for developers. Next month, in July, a public beta test will be available that anyone can install on their Apple Watch.
