Apple probably integrates a special game app in iOS 19

There have been rumors for some time that Apple is working on the development of a special game app and it seems to really come in iOS 19.

A special game app in iOS 19

According to Bloomberg Apple is currently working on a standalone multiplatform app for games. With this app, Apple users can launch games and also view and keep track of game performance and leaderboards. Apple is planning to install the app on the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV later this year. The presentation of the new game app will probably take place at the same time with the unveiling of iOS 19, MacOS 16 and TVOS 19 during the WWDC on 9 June.

The new game app will replace Game Center, which Apple used for a long time to invite friends for mobile games and keep track of performance. Apple is also planning to use the new game app to promote Apple Arcade. In addition, the app will contain all third-party games that can currently be found in the Game Sections of the App Store. Apple wants it to be easier to find and download games.

As mentioned, the game app will be presented during the WWDC on 9 June. The rollout to iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple TVs will probably take place at the same time with the new operating systems available for the general public.

Available in September

We expect Apple iOS 19 to release again around the same date as earlier large iOS updates. In 2024, iOS 18 appeared on September 16, iOS 17 came on September 18, 2023 and iOS 16 was released on September 16, 2022. If Apple continues the same planning this year, chances are that the official version of the update will be available to all users in the third week of September. Apple often releases new software versions on Monday or Tuesday. If we look very far ahead, the official release of iOS 19 may not be noticeable Monday, September 15 or Tuesday September 16.
