Apple really didn’t like this Android app

An app allowed Android users to send messages to and from the Messages app on an Apple iPhone. But Apple quickly blocked the app.

Beeper Mini is an app for Android smartphones that can do something very special. Or should we say ‘could’, because Apple recently put a stop to it. The app allowed Android owners to send and receive messages via iMessage (in Dutch: Messages).

The app worked perfectly fine and the messages were even shown in blue balloons. Normally, messages sent from an Android device to an Apple device appear in a green text bubble.

All the other features you can normally use in the iPhone’s Messages app were also available in the Android app. In addition, you did not need an Apple ID for the Android app, but the service did cost two dollars per month.

Android app suddenly stopped working

Three days after release, the app suddenly stopped working. Messages were no longer sent and it was no longer even possible to activate a telephone number in the app.

When the app stopped working, it was not immediately clear what was wrong until a statement from Apple provided more information. Apple said that the app poses significant security and privacy risks. They indicated that these techniques can promote unwanted messages, spam and phishing, among other things.

In any case, the developers of Beeper Mini have already said that they will continue to work on the Android app and look for ways to get the app working again.
