Apple registers new Macs: new MacBook 2022 on the way?

Apple has registered three model numbers of new Macs in a database. It’s an indication that Apple will be releasing one or more Macs soon. Is it the Mac mini and MacBook Pro 2022?

Note

A new registration in the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) database indicates that new Macs are coming soon. These are the new model numbers A2615, A2686 and A2681.

Apple now has to register devices with encryption technologies with the Eurasian Economic Commission. This often happens two to three months before the launch. Therefore, this database is a good indication of what we can expect from Apple in the short term.

New MacBook Pro 2022?

The Mac numbered A2681 is described in the database as a portable computer, so it should be a MacBook. In recent weeks, there have been rumors that a new MacBook Pro is on the way. It would be a successor to the 13-inch MacBook Pro from 2020, which is equipped with a powerful M2 chip.

It may not end with a new MacBook Pro. The A2615 and A2686 don’t carry the “portable computer” designation, so these should be desktop Macs. We think it’s a high-end version of the Mac mini, which Apple wants to equip with a more powerful chip.

Another candidate is the rumored 27-inch iMac Pro. It looks like the new 24-inch iMac, but has a larger screen and is equipped with a more powerful M1 Pro or M1 Max processor. However, according to the latest rumors, the release has been postponed to August or September.

Apple event

Last month, Apple already registered a new iPhone and iPad. Probably it concerns the new iPhone SE and iPad Air. Apple is reportedly revealing the products at an event on March 8, so we should know more then.
