Apple releases iOS 18.2.1 (and it’s a major update)

Just update! Apple has released an important interim update for the iPhone with iOS 18.2.1, making it wise to update as soon as possible.

iOS 18.2.1

Apple has released another update! This concerns iOS 18.2.1, an interim update that does not bring any new features to your iPhone. Instead, Apple focuses on fixing major software bugs. These problems probably arose in iOS 18.2, the software version that Apple released about a month ago. It was already clear that an interim update would follow.

That software version is now available, making it important to install iOS 18.2.1 on your iPhone as soon as possible. Apple only releases interim updates for major software or security problems. It is still unclear exactly which errors are involved. These issues usually only become known after the update is available. In this way, Apple tries to prevent malicious parties from taking advantage of the software problems.

Update available now

Apple has released both iOS 18.2.1 and iPadOS 18.2.1 for all users. This means that your iPhone and iPad can already be updated to the latest software version. Does your iPhone run iOS 18.2, or your iPad run iPadOS 18.2? In that case, it is advisable to install the update as soon as possible, so that you can be sure that the security of the device is completely up to date again.

You can find the update in the settings of your iPhone or iPad. Go to ‘General > Software Update’ and select ‘Download and Install’ under iOS 18.2.1 so that the device is updated to the latest software version. Do you want the device to install updates automatically from now on? Then turn on the switch behind ‘Automatic updates’. It is not yet known whether the software problems in iOS 18.2 have already been exploited.

iOS 18.2.1

No new features (yet).

iOS 18.2.1 only fixes software problems, for new functions we have to wait for iOS 18.3. Apple has already started testing the next update, the first test versions are now available to users. Have you installed a beta of iOS 18.3 on your iPhone? Then iOS 18.2.1 can no longer be installed. The same applies to an iPad with a test version of iPadOS 18.3.

With iOS 18.3, Apple is reportedly bringing a number of minor changes to the iPhone. For example, the Home app will support robot vacuum cleaners, so you can control the devices via Siri. For major adjustments we have to wait for iOS 18.4, because then Apple will bring the first functions of Apple Intelligence to the Netherlands and Belgium. Curious about what features those are? Then read all about iOS 18.4 here!
