A new app brought a long -awaited position to CarPlay, but Apple has now banned the feature. This application is all about!
Sidecar for CarPlay
CarPlay has a handy application! You can already install Sidecar in the App Store on your iPhone, so that you can use the app at CarPlay. With Sidecar, a long -awaited function came to the operating system, because it was finally possible to use a web browser via the application. Apple has not built this feature at CarPlay, making it impossible to go to websites and watch online videos.
Sidecar changed that, because the app offered for the first time the opportunity to visit a web page via CarPlay. That means you could finally watch online videos in your car, provided that the car was parked. Unfortunately, that option was only short -lived. At the request of Apple, Sidecar removed the function from the application. Apple was not behind the feature because it would endanger the safety of road users.

Function removed
Visiting web pages and playing videos via Sidecar is no longer possible. Sidecar was forced by Apple to remove the function because the application did not meet the guidelines of the App Store. That is not very surprising, because Apple allow only a limited number of categories on the CarPay screen. It was therefore striking that the new function of Sidecar was nevertheless approved by the App Store.
Apple is now partially coming back of that assessment, so that the latest function of the app is no longer available in CarPlay. Sidecar’s feature could only be used in a stationary car, but apparently this was not enough for Apple. Sidecar has now disabled the feature and gives users the option to request a refund for the service. You can install the application for free, but for $ 9.99 users get access to the most advanced functions. Users can now reclaim that amount, because visiting web pages was one of the paid features.

More about Sidecar
Sidecar has since submitted a request to Apple to get the position back to the application, but the chance of success seems small. The app also offers many more functions for CarPlay. This way you see a lot of data from your vehicle in Sidecar. Consider the tire pressure, the fuel level and the distance that the car has traveled. These features are not visible in CarPlay itself, although CarPlay 2.0 will probably change that.
In this way, Sidecar gives a first idea of the next generation of CarPlay. That still makes the application interesting, although it is a shame that Apple has forbidden the web browser in Sidecar. According to Apple, the CarPlay screen is only suitable for a number of purposes, such as playing music and showing navigation. It is therefore unlikely that the web browser will return to Sidecar (or another app) in CarPlay.
