Time to update again, because Apple has a new update for your iPhone and Apple Watch. These are the improvements in iOS 18.6.1 and Watchos 11.6.1!
Apple releases iOS 18.6.1 and Watchos 11.6.1: this is new
Apple has released a new version of iOS and Watchos. It is a small update with only a few bug fixes and error solutions. However, this update is quite important for residents of the United States. Because the oxygen measurement finally returns.

It is the first time in more than a year and a half that this function is available again. Apple had to deactivate the function earlier due to a patent conflict with the Masimo company. The function remained available in other countries.
Apple has now made a modified version of the function for residents of the US in iOS 18.6.1. But Apple had to adjust the function a bit.
The watch still collects the necessary sensor data, but the processing is now via the iPhone. The results can then be found in the Health app. This is of course slightly less easy than showing the measurement data directly on the Apple Watch, but it is nice that the function is now also available in the United States.

Apple says that the oxygen measurement becomes available again for owners of the Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in the US. Apple is still challenging the indictment, so there is a chance that the position will get an update later.
iOS 26 is coming
After iOS 18.6.1 there will be much more coming soon. The next version of the operating system for your iPhone is also almost ready. Apple gets off the successive numbers and therefore comes with iOS 26. You will also see this name change at the Apple Watch and iPad.

The update probably appears at the beginning of September. That month, Apple also presents the new iPhones from 2025 and will be released the most important updates of the year.
