Apple released a series of updates on Monday 29 September! The first interim software version of iOS 26 has appeared, allowing users with iOS 26 to update to iOS 26.0.1. Unfortunately, not all devices have support for iOS 26, which get stuck on iOS 18. An update was also released for those iPhones on Monday 29 September, because iOS 18.7.1 is available.
With the interim updates of iOS 18 no new functions will come to your iPhone anymore. Instead, Apple focuses on improving the software and solving problems. That is also the case with iOS 18.7.1, which is primarily intended to keep the security of the device in order. It is therefore advisable to install the new software version as quickly as possible, because important problems with the security of the iPhone are being resolved.
Security problems
Apple has since indicated which problems with iOS 18.7.1 are being solved. In iOS 18.7, certain fonts can ensure that applications get stuck or even stop working. These fonts can also cause errors in the memory of the iPhone, making the device vulnerable to malignant files. For example, such a font can be deliberately used to get control of your iPhone or to steal your data.
This security problem is solved in iOS 18.7.1. There is a good chance that Apple will resolve even more software errors, but not mention it in the description of the update for safety reasons.
