It’s time to update again! Apple brings some really cool features to your iPhone with iOS 26.1. This is new!
iOS 26.1 is out: these are the new features
Apple has released a major new update for your iPhone. This time the update contains several cool features. Are you curious and do you want to install the update yourself as quickly as possible? You do this via Settings > General > Software update.
Apple Intelligence in Dutch
Perhaps the most important new feature is that Apple Intelligence is now finally available in Dutch. That means everyone with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer can now also get started in the Netherlands with, among other things, Writing Assistance, Visual Intelligence, Image Playground, Genmoji and summaries of notifications. Siri can now also forward complex questions to ChatGPT and you can use Live Translations in the Messages app.
Liquid Glass: more or less glass
The biggest change with iOS 26 is the new look. Your iPhone got a completely new look with the major update. This new design was quite a big change, because it gave your iPhone a kind of transparent look.
However, not everyone was very happy with the new look. And Apple has already made the glass appearance less prominent in recent beta updates. With iOS 26.1, Apple has gone one step further. Because you can then indicate in the settings how visible the glass effect should be. However, you still can’t turn off the effect completely.
Never accidentally open the Camera app again
You can disable another feature in the iOS 26.1 update. By default, swiping from right to left on the lock screen opens the Camera app. That can be useful, but for some users it also happened (too) often by accident. Apple is now adding an option in iOS 26.1 that allows you to disable this specific feature.
More small changes
Apple has added a number of minor adjustments. The alarm clock app has also undergone a small change. When your alarm goes off in the morning, you have to press a button to turn off the alarm. With iOS 26.1 you now have to drag the button to turn off the sound.
The Music app has also received a minor update. You can now instantly play a new song when you swipe across the bottom of the screen. Swiping from right to left plays the next song. You can play the previous song by swiping from left to right.
