The Apple Studio Display and Apple Pro Display XDR were the first Apple screens that could be fitted with nano-textured glass. Nowadays, this range has been significantly expanded to include the iMac with M4 chip, iPad Pro with M4 chip and MacBook Pro with M4 chip or newer.
An Apple screen with nanotexture offers numerous advantages. The screen has a matte finish and this ensures that it reflects less in bright light. We explain what you should pay attention to and what is so special about this glass.
Nano-textured glass for Apple products
Apple offers users the option to have their external screen, iPad or Mac fitted with nano-textured glass. Both the plain glass option and the nano-textured glass option are designed to minimize reflection. However, it can be useful to think about your workplace before determining which option suits you best. Nano-textured glass is extremely useful when you work in a brightly lit room.
No coating, but solution at nanometer level
Most matte displays have a coating applied to them that scatters the light. But such coatings also reduce contrast and create a glittering haze on the screen. The nanotexture is etched (cut) into the glass at the nanometer level and scatters light, minimizing reflection. This means you always have a great image, even if the lighting conditions are not optimal or a window ‘shines’ directly into the screen.

Smooth cleaning with nano texture
When you purchase an Apple product with nanotexture, you will receive a special cleaning cloth. It is extremely important that you only use this cloth to clean the screen.
You should only clean the screen with a dry cleaning cloth without water. For occasional cleaning of hard-to-remove stains, you can dampen the cloth with a 70 percent solution of isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
Of course you can clean the cleaning cloth. Wash the cloth by hand in soapy water with dish soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and allow the cleaning cloth to air dry for at least 24 hours. The cleaning cloth is also available separately for cleaning all your Apple devices or as a replacement.
