When Apple announced a new version of the Apple Watch Ultra in 2023, we were a little disappointed. It was actually an Apple Watch Ultra 2 with just a new color (black). But according to rumors, that will change in 2025, when the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will have several new functions.

Health

Almost every new version of the Apple Watch gets new health features. But this time the Apple Watch Ultra 3 gets a very special feature: a blood pressure monitor.

There have been rumors for years that Apple is planning to add a blood pressure monitor to the Apple Watch. But according to Apple expert Mark Gurman, the time seems to finally be coming in 2025. The function will then work similar to the sleep apnea detection in watchOS 11.

Satellite function

Another new feature that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will have, according to Gurman, is sending text messages, even when you don’t have a WiFi or data connection. The smartwatch then uses satellites to send the messages. The iPhone has had this technology for a few years, but the Apple Watch never got this feature.

5G

The current versions of the Apple Watch Ultra have ‘only’ 4G, but the next version will have 5G, according to Gurman. This will probably be a special version of 5G that requires less battery power. The big advantage of 5G is of course that it is much faster than 4G. Data can then be retrieved from the internet even faster.

It will take some time before the Apple Watch Ultra 3 appears here. All rumors point to this being around the release of the iPhone 17. That means it should happen sometime in September of 2025.
