At the iPhone 16 event on September 9, Apple will present new iPhones, but there are also products that will not be released then (yet). This is what you need to know.
This is what Apple is not announcing at the iPhone 16 event
On Monday evening, August 26, it was announced that the following Apple event takes place on September 9. We expect new versions of the iPhone and Apple Watch at this iPhone 16 event, but there are also rumors about products that probably won’t be announced (yet). We’ll list them for you.
M4 Macs
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported recently that Apple has accelerated the development of the first Macs with M4 chip. This would concern new versions of the MacBook Pro, Mac mini and iMac with the M4 chip.
The iMac and MacBook Pro will likely retain the design of their current versions, but there are rumors that the M4 Mac mini will get a brand new, more compact design that more closely resembles an Apple TV. They just won’t be appearing at the iPhone 16 event. Apple typically holds special Mac events in October, so it’s likely that will be the case this year as well.
AirPods Pro 3
Apple is rumored to be working on the third generation AirPods Pro. This new version is said to have a new design and new chips that will enable health-related features, such as a hearing test. The AirPods Pro 3 will likely be announced later next year.
This year, Apple is expected to announce two new versions of the AirPods 4, which will replace both the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3. These new AirPods will likely be announced during the iPhone 16 event on September 9. There’s also a chance that a new version of the AirPods Max will be announced, but that’s just as likely to happen later this year.
New HomePods
Apple is reportedly developing multiple new HomePod models. Leaked images show a model that looks similar to the HomePod 2, but with an LCD touchscreen on top. There are also rumors of a more ambitious device with a screen size of around 8 inches and tvOS. There’s no indication that Apple plans to introduce new HomePods at the iPhone 16 event, however.
Cheaper Apple Vision
The Apple Vision Pro is still not available in the Netherlands, but is now available in stores in Germany, among other countries. There are rumors that Apple is working on a cheaper model to attract more customers. However, this model will not be ready until the end of 2025 at the earliest. Apple could possibly announce an expansion of the Vision Pro to even more countries during the iPhone 16 event.
A new iPad mini, at the iPhone 16 event or not?
The supply of iPad mini 6 units appears to be running out in Apple Stores around the world, a possible indication that a new iPad mini could be coming soon. Apple has announced new iPads at iPhone events in the past, but they usually don’t arrive until October. As a result, there’s a 50 percent chance that an iPad mini 7 will be announced at the iPhone 16 event.
Apple did announce this during the iPhone 16 event
Apple will unveil four new iPhones: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. New features include a physical button for cameras, the capture button. The Pro models get larger displays. All iPhone 16 models are powered by the A18 chip and are compatible with Apple Intelligence.
Apple is also expected to launch the Apple Watch Series 10 with a new design and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 with minor improvements. New AirPods are also expected at the iPhone 16 event. And then of course the official release of iOS 18 will follow.
