New AirPods in 2024
Are you planning to buy new AirPods? Then you better wait a little longer, because new AirPods will finally appear this year. Last year, the AirPods Pro 2 received a minor update, because the charging case was equipped with a USB-C connection. According to rumors, we will see a completely new generation in 2024, because there will be several AirPods 4 models.

The third generation of AirPods appeared in 2021, so it is high time that Apple updates the earphones again. The AirPods 4 will reportedly have many new functions and a new design. The new design should ensure that the AirPods fit nicer and better in your ears. The usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman has now predicted that we can expect not one, but two AirPods 4 models.
AirPods 4 available in two models
According to Gurman, Apple plans to bring a popular AirPods Pro feature to the ‘normal’ AirPods this year. The AirPods 4 models are expected to get noise cancellation, a feature that has so far only been available on the Pro models. This is the first time that the regular version of the earphones also features active noise cancellation, which blocks out disturbing ambient noise much better.
The fact that the AirPods 4 have noise cancellation probably also has a disadvantage, because the earphones are a lot more expensive. According to Gurman, Apple therefore plans to release two AirPods 4 models. One of those models does have noise reduction, while the other version has to do without. This way you can choose whether you want to pay more money for the function or opt for the cheaper model.

Other improvements expected with the AirPods 4 models include a charging case with USB-C port and improved sound quality. According to Gurman, the AirPods 4 box with noise cancellation will have an extra function. In the more expensive version, the charging case has a speaker, so that sound can be played via the Find My app. We already see this function with the AirPods Pro 2.

Production of the new AirPods 4 models will reportedly begin in May. This means that Apple will probably announce the earphones in September or October.
