Are these young toads or young brown frogs?

Answer

Hi Charlotte,

as far as this photo allows to determine, I believe these are young toads. Not 100% certainty due to the limitation of the photo (rather small and no side view), but high probability. I think I see warts on the one whose back is sharply focused, indicating toads. I also see a light brown side stripe behind the eye which is much more prominent and wider in Common Frogs. So fairly certain: young toads. If this is in your yard, make sure they can get out of the pool if they want to because toads usually hibernate on land, under rocks.
