The corona pandemic is largely behind us and that is why many Dutch people have gone on a winter sports holiday again. This is also apparent from the number of breakdown reports that the ANWB receives.

Almost 9,000 Dutch winter sports enthusiasts called in the help of the ANWB Emergency Center from 1 December to the beginning of March due to a car breakdown. That is the same number as in the winter sports season for corona, in 2019-2020, the ANWB reports. People on winter sports mainly reported non-starting cars, flat tires and broken batteries.

The ANWB also received 995 reports of winter sports enthusiasts who had suffered injuries during their holiday. Injuries to the arm, lower leg and back were the most common winter sports injuries. 141 people with serious injuries had to be taken home by ambulance or recumbent taxi.

Austria is still the most popular winter sports destination for the Dutch. France is also becoming increasingly popular, according to the ANWB. Especially at the start of the winter sports season, more people went to France. During that period, Germany and Austria were less accessible due to the corona rules, while France and Switzerland were open to a large extent.
