Asus announces a brand new laptop, with a price tag of about 3,600 euros. It is the Asus ZenBook Pro 16X OLED, with a keyboard that pops up when you open the lid.
Some laptops offer legs to make the keyboard more accessible, but Asus is now taking a different tack. When you open the lid of the Asus ZenBook Pro 16X OLED, the keyboard will rise automatically. This has two advantages: typing is (probably) better and the internal parts also literally get breathing room.
And that is necessary, since this model has a twelfth generation Intel Core i9 12900H processor and an Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU, which repel quite a bit of heat. The laptop itself is not even 17 millimeters thin when it is closed. Admittedly, the GPU is not the strongest on the market at the moment, but you can still use it as a gamer or creator. The latter is especially apparent from the support for a stylus (the Asus Pen).
Impressive screen on a mighty Asus laptop
The Asus ZenBook Pro 16X OLED has – not surprisingly – an impressive OLED screen. It is 16-inch in size and offers 4k resolution. In addition, there is a screen ratio of 16:10, a response time of 0.2 milliseconds and support for one hundred percent of the DCI-P3 color space. The laptop has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 985MB/sec SD Express 7.0 card reader and a spacious draft pad with haptic feedback. Furthermore, there is a jog dial for your palm and that impressive keyboard offers backlighting.
In addition, you can assume that the rest of the specs are fine. What about 32 GB of RAM, 2 TB of storage space on a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD and support for both WiFi 6e and Bluetooth 5.2. The battery has a capacity of 96 Wh. There is also a headphone jack, as well as an HDMI 2.1 port. And the laptop has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port.
The design raises questions
The design of the Asus ZenBook Pro 16X OLED does raise some questions. Does this keyboard type well? And is that actually good for your wrists? Asus has been selling laptops with angled keyboards for years, so they’re likely to appeal to consumers.
And what about the rejection of the heat? Asus claims that the internal parts, the cpu and the gpu, have access to thirty percent better airflow, which reduces the temperature by seven degrees. The system offers a TDP of 140 watts.
