The Audi A3 Sportback and Limousine are already available as quite potent S3, but those 310 hp versions are relegated to sub-toppers after the arrival of the new Audi’s RS3. A set of brand new spy photos shows both the new RS3 Sportback and the RS3 Limousine.
The engine list of the Audi A3 is already quite extensive. In addition to regular petrol and diesel versions, Audi also supplies two plug-in hybrid versions of the A3 Sportback. The 310 hp and 400 Nm strong S3 Sportback and S3 Limousine are currently the sportiest versions, but that will change when the mighty new RS3s appear on the scene.
The S3s introduced last year were barely more powerful on paper than their 310 hp predecessors, although the new S3 gained 20 Nm of pulling power. It remains to be seen whether the new Audi’s RS3 will receive a solid injection of power. The RS3s of the previous generation Audi A3 had a 400 hp 2.5 TFSI under the hood, a five-cylinder that could also help the new generation RS3 to achieve impressive performance. To be able to win the race far with the AMG versions of the Mercedes-Benz A-class, the RS3 can use some extra horsepower.
The most powerful AMG variant of the A-Class is the Mercedes-AMG A45 S, a powerhouse that distributes 421 hp over all four wheels. Don’t be surprised if Audi boosts the power of its 2.5 TFSI with about twenty horsepower to keep up with that car. The new RS3 will be unveiled this year, we expect it to be on the market around the end of the year.
