Chasing the X-class?
Audi has apparently already forgotten the not exactly successful pick-up adventure that Mercedes-Benz experienced with the X-class. The brand says it is investigating whether it can add a pickup to its delivery range.
During the annual major press conference of Audi, CEO Markus Duesmann received an interesting question from the present newsreel. Duesmann was asked if Audi would ever come up with a pickup.
According to Duesmann, he cannot promise that Audi will add a pick-up to its delivery range, although the brand is investigating the possibility. The CEO even hinted at the possible arrival of a concept car that could have something to do with an Audi pick-up. In 2019, Audi showed a futuristic-looking off-roader with the AI:Trail Concept, a study model where certain design elements could possibly return on a pick-up from the brand.
If Audi comes up with a pick-up, it probably won’t develop it in-house. After all, sister brand Volkswagen uses the Ford Ranger as the basis for its new Amarok. Competitor Mercedes-Benz dared years ago to transform the Nissan Navara into an X-class. However, the X-class did not yield a great sales success for Mercedes-Benz.
