He is 5.15 meters long, as high as an average Dutch man, 2.345 kg and 265 hp strong. Whether the equipment of the least expensive BMW X7 is also so generously sized, we find out today.
BMW X7 xDrive 30d – € 118,728
Yes: the most affordable BMW X7 costs just under 120,000 euros. A gigantic amount, with which the largest SUV from BMW actually has a higher entry price than the 7-series that until its arrival was considered an absolute top model. With the X7 you get for the basic price a nice six-cylinder diesel engine under the hood, which the car with its 265 hp and 620 Nm in 7 counts in a relaxed manner to the 100. XDrive all-wheel drive is also as standard as the fine eight-speed automatic transmission.
Reason for saving for a thicker engine is therefore not rationally seen, although that is actually not an argument in this segment. After all, sufficient is often not good enough here, so we will probably not find a bare X7 in real life.
Whoever orders the simplest version, gets an X7 xDrive30d without further additions. The huge SUV is available in white or black at no extra cost. 20-inch alloy is also standard, as are moldings around the side windows in “aluminum satin”, various chrome accents and adaptive LED headlamps and LED taillights.
Standard panoramic roof
The basic version can be recognized by the lack of roof rails. However, BMW makes up for that by fitting a panoramic roof as standard, which can of course be opened electrically. We rarely come across such a sumptuous version in a basic version. A two-piece electric tailgate is also standard, as is Keyless Entry (“Comfort Access” at BMW) and a battery of LED lights that illuminate the car inside and out after unlocking. Even BMW’s Display Key, with which various functions can be operated from the key, is standard with every X7.
This sets the tone, because inside BMW does not do childish for 120 mille. All seven seats are always provided with a nice layer of leather, although in standard form it is the relatively simple “Vernasca” variant. That leather is available without spending a cent extra in brown, black, cognac and beige. For example, for the basic price it is also possible to get to the car in photo 4. The dashboard is also always upholstered in Sensatec, which is somewhat comparable in appearance to leather.
Anyone who wants can choose up to 4.5 mille of optional upholstery types, with the most expensive option also leading to the obligatory ticking of the High Executive package and thus to a total price increase of no less than € 8,757.98. Brown is fine, thank you.
Cozy
With the “knaken-X7”, the moldings are made in “Noble wood Fineline Stripe”, high-gloss wood that certainly does not look out of place. Electrically adjustable and heated sports seats, illuminated door sills and mood lighting provide cosiness and warmth.
In terms of appearance and luxury feeling, you are therefore baked in every X7, but does the car really offer luxury? In any case, comfort, because air suspension is standard. Also nice is the climate control system, which has no fewer than four zones as standard. To make maneuvering with this bakbeest somewhat manageable, BMW always mounts parking sensors all around, lane departure warning and a reversing camera and assistant. Cruise control is of course present, but this is a simple speed assistance. A driving assistance package of € 1,602 is compulsory for the adaptive variant. This package also includes an active lane assistant and even a function to let the car change lanes itself.
Just with head-up
In the chapter “Navigation, communication and infotainment” we find an audio system with 10 speakers, a digital instrumentation, a head-up display (!), Gesture control (gesture control) and an extensive connectivity package with navigation.
Helping is therefore by no means in BMW’s largest, although that does not mean, of course, that there is nothing left to choose. As usual in the higher segments, the option list starts at the level of pure luxury. Nicer leather, beautiful paint colors, a Bowers & Wilkins audio system of about 5.5 mille, loose seats instead of a back seat, sun shades, cool and heatable cup holders and seats, a fifth (!) Zone for air conditioning, laser light or a ‘Sky Lounge’ starry sky in front of the panoramic roof: everything is possible. For example, it is still relatively easy to raise the price to about 1.5 tons.
