School and study often use a so-called CAS, where CAS stands for Computer Algebra System. PocketCAS can do just that and feels right at home on an iPad and even iPhone!
An extensive calculator with CAS options can run smoothly. Something that does not necessarily make the average high school or student (or their parents…) happy. Moreover, it does not exactly fall into the ‘offer of the day’ category, but nevertheless costs many times less than a separate device with the same possibilities.
A big advantage of PocketCAS is that it makes optimal use of the screen dimensions of your device, and of course the high resolution. PocketCAS is not for the faint of heart, it is a tool designed to tackle serious math issues. Less suitable for the first year of high school. But after that it quickly gets darn interesting. You can start by drawing the most beautiful graphs, whether or not in 3D. Rotate the case with your finger to get a good view from all sides. Thanks to the sturdy GPUs in your iPad and iPhones, this goes smoothly and in real time. There are also export options so that you can use charts in a report or report, for example. A solver quickly solves complex equations, which saves a lot of time when working on some project or research. Extensive algebra is also not lacking.
Script language
The beating heart for anyone who wants more is a C-based scripting language that you can use within PocketCAS for more complicated matters that cannot be captured in standard formulas. The only disadvantage of an app like this is that they usually cannot be used on exams. Perhaps (and hopefully) that will change in the near future. Times have changed, and there is much more under the sun than the time-honored calculator in 2020. After all, the point is that you understand a problem and can solve it, not with which tools you use it.
