Nice rebuild
Bentley has completed a very special project. The first Bentley Speed Six of the Continuation Series is finished. A completely new racing car, following the example of the late 1920s.
Bentley announced more than a year ago that it had put its Mulliner department on a special project. Mulliner has the honorable task of breathing new life into the Bentley Speed Six on the basis of the original construction drawings. Exact replicas of the cars that won the ‘Bentley Boys’ in 1929 and 1930 Le Mans. Now the first of the planned thirteen copies is ready.
The results are impressive. At first glance it seems to be an almost hundred-year-old racer, but it is really a brand new one. Even the 6.5-litre six-cylinder is brand new and according to Bentley an initial test has shown that it produces about 208 hp, which Bentley says is a difference of at most about 5 hp compared to the power that the original in 1929 could generate. A sign of how down to the smallest details everything has been recreated according to the original drawings.
No less than ten months of work goes into each of the replicas. The first copy is now ready and it remains with Bentley itself. In October, Mulliner will start building the first of twelve customer cars. The entire Speed Six Continuation Series must be complete by the end of 2025.
