2019 is almost over, but not before the editors of iPhoned One last look back at 2019. This time Michel lists his favorite iOS app, iOS game and Apple product of 2019.
Best iOS App of 2019: Edo Calendar
My favorite iOS app wasn’t made in 2019, but I only discovered it this year. Edo Calendar is, as the name suggests, a calendar app. I had not been satisfied with Google Calendar for some time, because I found the program too superficial. As a result, I started a search for a better calendar app in mid-2019. This has ended for the time being at Edo Agenda.
The program describes itself as the agenda for freelancers, and that’s quite right. In addition to entering appointments and creating tasks, you can also create projects, for example. Here you can store various subtasks, appointments and notes. This is ideal when you have many different types of activities.
In my case, I keep track of what I have to do for different employers and what still needs to be done for each part of my thesis. Also useful is the ‘flying tasks’ window, where you can write down tasks that you should do at some point, but are not urgent. Once you have a gap in your schedule, you can pick up one of these chores.
Edo Agenda is by far my most practical app of 2019. Whether this will remain the case next year, however, remains to be seen. It hasn’t been updated since I downloaded Edo Calendar. I don’t know if the app is still maintained. If this is not the case, I will consider switching to Amazing Marvin.
Best iOS Game of 2019: Hyper Light Drifter
Over ten years ago, I skipped school for two weeks to play Fallout 3, but I’ve hardly ever played any games since. I am anything but a fanatic iOS gamer. However, a game that has captivated me while compiling an app weekly overview is Hyper Light Drifter.
In the beautifully designed retro platformer you climb and clamber past obstacles while crushing enemies. The storyline has completely passed me by, but the fine controls, iconic design and RPG elements stay with me. Hyper Light Drifter is therefore an ideal game for in between.
Best Apple Product of 2019: AirPods Pro
Today I spend at least 40 hours a week in the university library. It strikes me more and more often how many people wear AirPods. In recent weeks I have also spotted more and more AirPods Pro with students. And I agree with them: they are the best earbuds Apple has ever made.
I have tested the earbuds several times and can only say that the iPhone maker has once again proven itself. Admittedly, the AirPods Pro are not cheap, but you do get quality in return. They look slick, offer impressive sound quality and the noise cancellation is fantastic.
The active noise canceling ensures that ambient noise is filtered in a smart way and, in my opinion, has an edge over competitors. The noise reduction ensures that you can concentrate better. The Pro earplugs are therefore not only a luxury product, but also an investment in your productivity. I’m currently spending my money on other things, but the AirPods Pro are high on my wish list.
