There is a new feature available in WhatsApp, but it comes with more disadvantages than you think. This is what this new feature is all about!
External chats in WhatsApp
WhatsApp has a long-awaited feature! For the first time, it is possible to chat with other messaging services in WhatsApp. New European regulations have obliged WhatsApp to collaborate with other platforms. This has now happened, meaning WhatsApp now supports sending messages to two external services. You’ll soon be able to start a conversation with BirdyChat and Haiket accounts.
WhatsApp has opened the software to these messaging services, it is now up to BirdyChat and Haiket to take the same measures. This is a historic step, because until now it was only possible to exchange messages between two (or more) WhatsApp accounts. We have been waiting for this improvement in WhatsApp for a long time, but unfortunately the new feature also comes with a series of disadvantages.
WhatsApp feature has disadvantages
It is now possible to enable external chats in WhatsApp. Here you can read how to enable the new feature in WhatsApp, but keep in mind the disadvantages that external chats entail. This way, all users on these external chats can contact you if they know your phone number. These are also users you may have blocked on WhatsApp. WhatsApp blocks accounts, but this block can be circumvented by contacting them via another messaging service.
The external chats are a long-awaited addition, although they can also ensure that unwanted contacts can send you messages again. This also makes your telephone number more vulnerable to scammers, who can approach you via multiple communication channels. While this was previously only possible via WhatsApp, this will soon also be possible via external chats such as BirdyChat and Haiket.

The new WhatsApp function therefore comes with a number of important disadvantages. Especially if you have blocked certain contacts in WhatsApp, there is a risk that they can still start a conversation via other messaging services. Is that the case? Then you can also block contacts from external chats. You do this in the same way as contacts within WhatsApp: you go to the conversation, tap the contact information above the chat and choose ‘Block contact’.
You don’t have to worry about the security of the conversations, because all external chats remain end-to-end encrypted with WhatsApp. Please note that your phone number can be found in external services such as BirdyChat as soon as you enable external chats in WhatsApp. Other personal information such as your name is not shared.
