Should Democrat Joe Biden be elected president of the United States, it would be better for the further development of electric driving. That is what Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said.
Commenting on the US election, the automaker’s boss was extremely careful in choosing his words. The US is an important market for the automaker and it is by no means certain that Biden will defeat incumbent President Donald Trump. He didn’t venture to say who he thought should win.
According to Diess, the Democrats’ program is expected to be more in line with Volkswagen’s global strategy. The aim is to reduce the emission of harmful substances and to promote electric driving.
Diess also pointed out that he has a relationship of trust with the Trump administration. According to him, the automaker has also done a lot to build the US. Volkswagen, for example, is planning to expand its plant in Tennessee.
Trump was previously very critical of the auto industry relations between the US and Germany. According to the president, this was not in balance, with the German automakers benefiting more from the American market than the other way around.
