Block a phone number on the iPhone in 4 steps

Do you often receive a call from a number that you don’t feel like doing at all? Then it is possible to block that call. In this article, we’ll show you how.

Since iOS 7 it is possible to block an iPhone phone number. Before that, you couldn’t actually block someone, except through a jailbreak or some other complicated way. However, in the newer versions of iOS it is a piece of cake.

Block iPhone phone number

Block a phone number on the iPhone in 4 steps

Blocking a phone number on your iPhone is very simple. If you get a call from a number you don’t want to hear from anymore, do the following:

  1. Open the Phone app and go to the ‘Recent’ tab;
  2. Next to the number you want to block, tap the ‘i’;
  3. Swipe down and choose ‘Block this caller’;
  4. Tap ‘Block Contact’ again and you’re done.

The caller can no longer reach you. In addition to just calling, the person can no longer send you FaceTime calls and texting is also impossible. Voicemails also no longer come through.

Unblock

If you change your mind and want to unblock the caller, you can. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to the Settings app of your iPhone;
  2. Choose ‘Phone> Blocked’;
  3. Then select ‘Edit’ at the top right and tap the red button that appears in front of the contact;
  4. Select ‘Unblock’ to complete the process.

If you want to see exactly which phone numbers you have blocked, go to ‘Settings> Phone> Block and identify caller’. This is also possible for the FaceTime app (‘Settings> FaceTime> Blocked’) or Messages app (‘Settings> Messages> Blocked’).

Block anonymous numbers and callers

Unfortunately, it is a different story if you receive an anonymous call. In this case you cannot call back and such a number cannot be blocked. There are apps with which it should be possible, but they are quite dubious. However, there is a workaround.

This way you can set your phone to ‘Do not disturb’. You do this via ‘Settings> Do not disturb’. There, tap on ‘Allow calls from’ and choose ‘All contacts’. If your phone is set to do not disturb, only contacts can reach you. Of course there are disadvantages, because all other songs are no longer coming through. Also possible important calls whose number you do not have in your iPhone.
