9 or 1,000 pieces?
BMW attracted considerable attention at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este with the Concept Touring Coupé. It may not stop at the one show car that could be admired there.
With the special BMW Concept Touring Coupé, BMW shows what a spiritual successor to the Z3 Coupé based on the current Z4 could look like. Whether or not it’s your taste; it is definitely a special creation. At BMW it is thought that there are enough people who like the car so much that production can be interesting. Opinions about how many copies should be built differ, however.
The most conservative estimate comes from none other than the director of BMW’s design department, Adrian van Hooydonk. The Dutchman states, according to various media, including Automotive News Europe that an extended production run probably wouldn’t be worth it. At most, he sees salvation in a limited edition of nine pieces, all personalized down to the last detail. Well, nine is a fairly specific number, so you can bet that something is being cooked up behind the scenes.
If that already makes you enthusiastic, you will undoubtedly lick your fingers at the words of Domagoj Dukec. BMW’s chief designer, who ranks below Van Hooydonk, says that a production series of 1,000 units can be considered. Whichever of the two it becomes, it seems almost inevitable that the BMW Concept Touring Coupé will get another tail.
