BMW Group reports record profit of €12.5 billion

BMW 3 Series

For many, 2021 was a difficult year due to the pandemic, but not for the BMW Group. The group not only managed to achieve record sales in 2021, but also made a huge profit. In fact, the group has never made as much profit as last year.

The BMW Group sold no fewer than 2,521,514 cars last year, an all-time record. The company announced this earlier this year. It was of course in line with expectations, but that sales record has gone hand in hand with an absolute profit record. BMW Group recorded a profit of €12.64 billion at the bottom, compared to €3.86 billion in 2020. The total turnover of the BMW Group was €111.2 billion, more than €12 billion more than the €98.99 billion that the group managed to secure a year earlier.

The more than 2.5 million cars sold by the BMW Group in 2021 were 8.4 percent more than a year earlier. Of course those 2.5 million cars were not all for BMW. The Mini and Rolls-Royce brands also fall under the BMW Group’s wings. Mini sold 302,138 new cars last year, 3.3 percent more than last year. Rolls-Royce saw its sales increase by 48.7 percent in 2021 to 5,586 cars. BMW had sold 2,213,790 cars, 9.1 percent more than a year earlier. In addition, BMW Group sold 194,261 motorcycles in 2021.
