but in the dark
BMW shines a light on the outside and inside of the new i5, or the electric new BMW 5 Series. It’s a very weak light.
The BMW i5 is coming. How imminent is also no secret: on May 24, the curtain will come off. We know that because it’s life size in the movies from which we’ve cut the above ‘stills’. Those screenshots show the most complete picture of what can be seen in those videos, namely the dashboard and the front of the BMW i5. On the outside we see the typical daytime running lights that can also be found on the facelifted X5 and X6. Two ‘arrows’ per headlight point to the outside of the car. In between we see even more striking lighting: a grille that lights up by means of ‘Iconic Glow’ lighting. It is large, but not of the ‘4-series’ type. It therefore does not extend to the bottom of the bumper and therefore does not contain the mounting location of the license plate.
On the inside we see many similarities with the BMW 7 series. For example, the i5 gets the same illuminated, transparent decorative strip, which gives a special effect in the somewhat smaller model. Of course we take a look at a large touchscreen, the gateway to BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment.
On May 24, the i5 is most likely the first variant of the new BMW 5 series that we will see. BMW did the same earlier, by first revealing the i4, and later the 4-series Gran Coupé. Also now the models with combustion engines follow quickly, so you don’t have to count on many external differences between the two variants. After all, there are no such differences with the i7 and 7 series and i4 and 4 series.
