Electric cars are regularly overloaded with excessive amounts of horsepower and this new variant of the BMW iX is no exception. Meet the BMW iX M60, an executioner of an electric SUV that pulls the paving stones including charging station out of the ground with its 619 hp and no less than 1,100 Nm.

To be fair: the appearance of the BMW iX M60 that you see in these photos will probably no longer make you fall out of your seat in amazement. Earlier we posted an extensive series of photos of the absolute top version of the iX, but now BMW has released the car itself in the country of electric SUVs. This also means that all technical specifications of the car are known. And they are certainly not nice.

1,100 Nm

The already known versions of BMW’s SUV developed in the basis as an electric model certainly do not have childish powertrains. There is not only a 326 hp xDrive40, but also a 523 hp and 765 Nm xDrive50. The latter is relegated to sub-topper with a huge hammer blow by this iX M60. The two electric motors of this new M Performance version of the BMW iX stamp 619 hp and 1,100 Nm to all four wheels. With that power, the SUV, weighing more than 2.5 tons, can reach a speed of 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, making it 0.8 seconds faster than the xDrive50 in the 0-100 sprint. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. With the xDrive40 and xDrive50, the speed limiter already cuts in at 200 km/h. If you operate the BMW iX M60 with a velvet foot, the iX topper will make its miles with only driven rear wheels.

Concession

If you don’t try to match the above figures, you will have to go 561 kilometers with the iX M60 on a full battery. That range squeezes the BMW from the same 105.2 kWh battery as the xDrive50 has. In terms of range, you deliver something in the absolute top version of the iX, the less powerful but still very strong xDrive50 comes 590 to 617 kilometers on a full charge. The full 1,100 Nm that the electric motors have to offer is only available in the My Mode Sport driving mode with Launch Control activated. A pulsating seat of the driver’s seat, together with a display on the digital instrumentation, is the signal that the M60 is ready for its sprint.

Adjustments

BMW’s M division has of course not only developed an extra powerful powertrain for the M Performance version of the iX. As with the iX xDrive50, an adaptive chassis and air suspension with automatic height control front and rear are standard, but these matters have been held up to the light by BMW’s M department. The iX M60 has, among other things, a variable steering system and extra sturdy rear stabilizer bars.

None other than composer Hans Zimmer has been brought in again to create a suitable ‘soundtrack’. After all, the ear wants something too. BMW supplies IconicSounds Eelectric as standard on the iX M60, with the result that every movement of the pedal is accompanied by a “[…] energetic sound experience.” The sounds differ between the different driving modes and have been composed especially for this M Performance version.

Interior and exterior

Furthermore, the iX M60 is mainly an iX as you already know it. From the outside, it is barely distinguishable from the iX xDrive40 and xDrive50 with the optional Sports package. Behind the wheels is an M Sportbrake system to be able to calm the iX M60 properly again. The brake calipers are in blue and BMW applies high-gloss black and Titanium Bronze colored finish. The bronze color could be found at the bottom of the side windows and side mirrors, on the D-pillar, around the type designations, in the closed ‘kidney grille’ and in the interior. The 22-inch large wheels are also optionally available with a Titanium Bronze-colored finish.

Just like in its milder brothers, we find the Curved Display in the iX M60 that is bent towards the driver, which consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation and a 14.9 inch infotainment display on which BMW’s Operating System 8 shows its tricks. The standard equipment of the iX M60 includes not only the already described Live Cockpit Professional, but also things like Laserlight headlamps, an extensive audio system from Bowers & Wilkins, active seat ventilation at the front and the Warmth Comfort package that includes heated armrests, seats and even doors. to all passengers.

Price and availability

We do not yet have Dutch prices, which will follow in the run-up to the market launch in the summer. The BMW iX xDrive50 costs at least €107,539, but you can count on the starting price of this iX M60 going well over that.
