BMW Motorrad has once again won the police tender, which means that it is expected to be able to supply motorcycles to the police for the next 7 years. The BMW R 1250 RT-p has been specially developed for the specific purpose of Incident Handling and Surveillance.
When Yamaha still had the FJR1300 in its range, it was a very popular bike among motorcycle agents, but since it was removed from the range, the R 1250 RT has been left alone. And so it is not surprising that that engine has again won the tender.
BMW Motorrad claims to be the only motorcycle brand that includes a specific government version in the development of certain models, although the FJR1300 was also specifically adapted to the requirements of the government services. For example, we were told at the time that the wheels had been deliberately moved out of the track to compensate for the weight of the equipment that was placed in a suitcase.
The difference with the R 1250 RT-p, however, is that it was developed by BMW Motorrad itself in Munich for government purposes. In the Netherlands, the motorcycle is then further developed to exactly meet the wishes of the police. The motorcycle is constructed in this way in close collaboration with specialist HSC in Nieuw-Vennep.
