The most important news is scheduled for September 28, when the completely new R 1300 GS will be unveiled in Berlin, but in anticipation of this, BMW has now announced the also completely renewed F GS family, which will consist of the F 800 GS, F 900 GS from 2024. and F 900 GS Adventure exists.

After the launch of the F 900 R and F 900 XR a few years ago, the question was not so much whether BMW would also use the larger block in the F GS family, but when. However, while many thought (or perhaps hoped) this would follow quickly, BMW took its time and waited until now. And this is just the announcement, the dealer introduction is not planned until spring 2024, so that will take a while.
BMW Motorrad claims to have significantly updated all three GS models (currently known as F 750 GS, F 850 GS and F 850 GS Adventure) and that they now – in addition to a new engine – also have richer standard equipment.
According to the Germans, the BMW F 900 GS even has many far-reaching innovations. The motorcycle’s capabilities are said to have been significantly expanded thanks to improved off-road capabilities combined with a dramatic 14kg weight reduction over the previous model, making it a particularly sporty F-series model.

In the new BMW F 900 GS, BMW F 900 GS Adventure and BMW F 800 GS, the parallel twin introduced in the F 850 GS in 2018 should provide more driving dynamics, thanks to the increased engine capacity of 895 cc (previously 853 cc). With an ignition interval of 270/450 degrees, it drives and sounds like a 90° V-twin.
In the BMW F 900 GS and BMW F 900 GS Adventure the twin produces a power of 77 kW (105 hp) and in the BMW F 800 GS a power of 64 kW (87 hp). In addition to the increase in peak power of 10 hp each, the new engines are also characterized by a much fuller torque curve, more pulling power and faster acceleration, according to BMW.
The new GS models from the F Series have the riding modes ‘Rain’ and ‘Road’ as standard, as well as Dynamic Traction Control DTC, the cornering-optimized ABS Pro and a dynamic brake light. The optional ‘Driving Modes Pro’ takes the dynamic qualities of the new BMW F 900 GS, BMW F 900 GS Adventure and BMW F 800 GS to an even higher level thanks to additional driving modes, driving mode preselection, engine drag torque control and Dynamic Brake Control DBC.
The new F GS family uses a bridge-shaped frame of welded, deep-drawn sheet steel parts, in which the two-cylinder in-line engine is integrated as a load-bearing element. The F 900 GS has a new plastic fuel tank with a capacity of 14.5 liters. The new tank design saves as much as 4.5 kg in weight compared to the steel tank of the previous model.
The F 900 GS also features a completely redesigned rear section, resulting in a weight saving of 2.4 kg and an even more dynamic appearance. The Akrapovič rear shock saves a further 1.7 kg in weight. Both the F 900 GS and the F 900 GS Adventure have a new, fully adjustable upside-down front fork from Showa.
If you really want to take it off-road: the off-road capabilities of the new F 900 GS can be further improved thanks to the optional Enduro Pro package with upside-down front forks with titanium nitride coating, a fully adjustable central rear shock, handlebar risers and an M Endurance chain. The electronic suspension Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) is optionally available on the F 900 GS Adventure and the F 800 GS.
According to BMW, the improved off-road qualities of the F 900 GS are reflected in the ergonomic triangle (handlebar – seat – footrests) that is optimized for off-road use. Lower footpegs in combination with the higher handlebar position and the new fuel tank design offer numerous advantages, especially when riding standing up on rough terrain.

The three new models already have an adjustable gear lever as standard. In combination with an optimized bearing and new kinematics, the shifting actions of the six-speed gearbox have been further optimized. The BMW F 900 GS also features a new foot brake pedal in a higher position.
Compared to the previous model, the LED headlight of the F 900 GS offers a larger opening angle for the dipped beam and therefore better illumination directly in front of the motorcycle. The F 900 GS Adventure and the F 800 GS are also equipped with LED headlights as standard. In addition, the turn signals and control lights of the three new models also feature LED technology.
The new GS models from the F series already have a large 6.5-inch TFT screen as standard. This feature is particularly noticeable on the F 800 GS, which previously had analogue instruments. The information diversity, graphical interface and user-friendliness are unparalleled in this segment. Calling, listening to music and navigating while driving is all possible.
The new F 900 GS has a 12 mm holder as standard for easy mounting of action cams or other devices. To install the BMW Motorrad Connected Ride Navigator or the
BMW Motorrad Connected Ride Cradle requires the optional ‘navigation preparation’.

The new F 900 GS has been completely redesigned. The dynamic design not only emphasizes the model’s increased off-road qualities and sportiness, but also its reduced weight of 14 kg. One of the highlights of the design is the newly designed plastic fuel tank, which allows for a much slimmer and more ergonomic design with only 0.5 liters less capacity than the previous model.
New, tight-fitting tank side panels and the new radiator finish give the BMW F 900 GS a sleek, sporty and off-road-oriented look. The off-road qualities, sportiness and dynamic performance are also reflected in the entire rear wheel area, which is significantly narrower and more dynamic than the previous model.
The dynamic appearance of the new BMW F 900 GS is further enhanced by the sporty Akrapovič rear silencer. The new BMW F 900 GS is available as a basic version in Blackstorm metallic, as a Passion model version in São Paulo Yellow solid paint and as a GS Trophy version in Light White solid paint/Racing Blue metallic.
The new BMW F 900 GS Adventure is available as a basic variant in Blackstorm metallic and as a Ride Pro model variant in matt White Aluminum. The new BMW F 800 GS is available as a basic variant in Light White, as a Sport model variant in Racing Blue and as a Triple Black version in Blackstorm metallic.
The market introduction of the new F GS family will take place in the second quarter of 2024, prices start from € 12,950 for the F 800 GS, from € 16,950 for the F 900 GS and from € 17,750 for the F 900 GS Adventure. From… including all option packages, several thousand euros can be added.
