It will soon be really over and out for the V12 at BMW. The brand is building a last series 7-series with V12 to say goodbye to the 6.6-liter block.
While one car manufacturer after another has discontinued the development of new combustion engines and focused entirely on the development of electric powertrains, BMW is simply working on a new generation of petrol and diesel engines. This includes six and eight cylinders, but you will no longer encounter a new V12 at BMW in the future. Although BMW has been using twelve cylinders in its cars since 1987, the brand is now really saying goodbye to the power station with twelve pips.
In June this year, BMW will start production of the very last series of V12s. The twelve-cylinder BMW still has in its portfolio is certainly not a childish machine. It concerns the 6.6 V12 equipped with two turbos that the brand hangs in the M760 Li. Until 2020, that absolute top version of the 7-series was also delivered in the Netherlands.
BMW
The American branch of BMW announces a very last series of the M760i for the local market. There will be – you guessed it – only 12 of these swing-out models available. Those twelve top limo’s don’t just go on sale. BMW USA itself says customers who “[…] have a long history with 7-series with V12” and entice them to buy. The last series of 7s with twelve cylinders are carried out in a special The Final V12 version. These will have a V12 designation on the butt, special light metal and A variety of delicacies from BMW Individual.
An end of an era. Although, at BMW. Rolls-Royce, also part of BMW Group, supplies a 6.75 V12 in the Ghost, Phantom and Cullinan. That twelve-cylinder comes from BMW and is in fact a bored version of the 6.6 V12 that gets a place in the history books at BMW. From 2030, Rolls-Royce says it will only sell electric cars. The 6.75 V12 is therefore also the last twelve-cylinder that you will still see at Rolls-Royce.
