‘BMW X8 comes between X7 and XM’

BMW will launch the XM next year, a ‘performance SUV’ that will be run as a standalone M model. The name X8 seems to have been put on hold, but that may not be the case after all.

Although it is now almost clear that the BMW Concept XM will dry up as the 750 hp BMW XM and not as the X8, the X8 book does not seem completely closed yet. Our German colleagues from AutoBild are convinced that there will also be a BMW X8. Then you might think that it will simply be the XM with milder drivetrains, but it seems to be something else.

AutoBild has understood that for the X8 we have to look more at the X7 than at the XM. BMW would take a similar approach as it does with the X3/X4 and X5/X6 respectively. In that case, the X8 is basically an X7, but with a more sloping roofline.

The BMW X7 has been around for a while now, but will soon be facelifted. If the X8 indeed becomes a slightly different brother of the X7, it won’t be long before we get a more concrete sign of life. So it’s worth paying attention to whether we will soon see a packed X7 where more is happening at the back than with the regular test sample shown here.
