More than two and a half years after the official announcement in February 2023, the Buell Super Cruiser finally went into production. So far the good news, the bad news is that the engine – like all other Buells – is currently only available in the US.
The first production unit, VIN 0001, was completed on September 26, 2025 and goes to the Barber Motorsports Museum for the official unveiling during the Barber Vintage Festival (3–5 October 2025). According to CEO Bill Melvin, these handmade machines are “a real mix of performance and art”.
The Heart of the Super Cruiser is a 1190cc V-twin, liquid-cooled, good for 175 hp and 94 LB-FT torque at 8,500 rpm-bizarre much for a cruiser. For comparison: the Ducati Diavel V4 RS goes with 180 hp just one step further. A hydraulically operated coupling and vacuum -controlled slipper keep everything under control when aggressively switch back.
The bicycle part is not inferior to the engine block: Fox upside-down front forks, brembo brakes with double 320 mm discs, and a Fox rear shock absorber without links. With a maximum slope of 50 degrees, this cruiser is also extremely sporty – almost bizarre for an engine of this type. Dunlop Sportmax Q5A tires give the confidence to really challenge the Super Cruiser.
Buell follows a cautious production lamp-up. “Every machine must make its promise and every rider get that typical Buell feeling as soon as they open the gas,” says Jason Anderson, Manufacturing & Quality Director. Deliveries to customers follow after completion of the latest federal certifications. The suggested retail price in the US is $ 25,900, with a $ 1,000 down payment to record a reservation.
The recent history of Buell is stormy. Ever founded by Erik Buell, the American brand was known for its innovative sports engines. After financial problems and the stopping by Harley-Davidson in 2009, the brand was taken over by an investment group and slowly rebuilt. European deliveries are not for the time being, making the Super Cruiser an exclusive American experience for the time being.
With the production of the Super Cruiser, Buell shows that the brand still dares to build, and that sporting cruisers with serious horsepower and extreme Lean Angles are possible.
