Bug in iOS 16 lets you change system font

A bug in iOS 16 makes it possible to change the default font in the system. iPhoned explains how this is possible.

iOS 16: change font without jailbreak

Zhuowei Zhang, a developer, has discovered that in iOS 16 you can adjust the font due to a flaw in the system. Zhang has now created an app that allows you to change the default font in iOS 16. The app will then replace the iOS font with the font of your choice.

Zhang writes on Twitter that the app is only available on devices still running iOS 16.1.2 or lower. Apple has already fixed the bug in iOS 16.2, so with the latest version of iOS 16 it is no longer possible to adjust the font.

Four new fonts in iOS 16

Zhang has introduced four new fonts in the app, including DejaVu Serif and Choco Cooky. The latter is a notorious font that has been set as the default font on Samsung devices for years. Now it is possible to further personalize your iPhone.

New fonts will most likely be added, Comic Sans MS is now also available. According to Zhang, the app is safe to install for everyone, but still recommends making a backup of your phone in advance.

The app will of course not appear in the App Store, so you have to download the application from the internet. Zhang has put the necessary files online.

Zhang emphasizes that the app is safe for anyone to install, but we recommend installing iOS 16.2 rather than this app. iOS 16.2 contains important security updates and other new features. Earlier we have already listed which cool new features will be introduced in iOS 16.2.

Will Apple add new fonts itself?

It is now clear that Apple is increasingly allowing more in the field of personalization of iPhones and iPads. Widgets are now possible and both the color and the font can already be adjusted from the clock on the lock screen.

It is therefore expected that Apple will make several fonts available in the long term, but that this will take a long time. In any case, we are curious how far Apple wants to go in further opening up iOS.
