Buying apps in the App Store with Face ID: this is how you do it in 3 steps

Face ID is not only there to unlock your iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or X, but has many more uses. One of these is making purchases in the App Store, an option that you must enable first. iPhone show you how.

Face ID App Store: this is how you make a purchase

Since the introduction of Touch ID on the iPhone 5S, it is possible to confirm purchases in the App Store with the fingerprint scanner. This is not only more secure than a password, but also faster. Since the iPhone X it logically works very differently, because the phone uses Face ID instead of Touch ID. Still, you can use facial recognition to, for example, buy apps in the App Store, or download a movie with iTunes.

For this you have to make sure that your iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or X is set up properly so that Face ID works in the app store. The process is simple and works pretty smoothly. Follow the steps below to enable Face ID for use in the App Store.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone;
  2. Tap on ‘Face ID and passcode’ and then enter your passcode;
  3. Make sure the switch behind ‘iTunes and App Store’ (under ‘Use Face ID for’) is green.

If you then go to the App Store or iTunes and see something you want to download, you can use Face ID to verify and complete the payment (or just the download). You then have to press the button on the side of your iPhone twice in succession, and then look at the device. The button prevents you from accidentally making a purchase without you being aware of it.
