BYD Song L: electric firing on Kia EV6

The Chinese BYD opens the attack on cars like the Kia EV6 with a new electric crossover. This is the BYD Song L, an EV that could also be interesting for the European market.

BYD showed an early version of the Song L at Auto Shanghai earlier this year. We are now several months further and BYD already considers the time ripe to push forward the final production version of that car. Unlike cars like the Seal and Dolphin, the Song L is a model of the Dynasty line and not one of the Ocean family. Does that mean that coming to Europe is out of the question? No. BYD sells models from both the Ocean and Dynasty series in Europe.

BYD Han

Just like this BYD Han, the Song L has a typical ‘Dynasty’ design.

Wait a minute, Ocean and Dynasty? Of course. BYD has divided its models into those two cups. Cars such as the Seal and Dolphin, which are available in the Netherlands, fall into the Ocean category, just like the Seagull, which is interesting for Europe, and each have model names of animals that live in or around the sea, although there are also Ocean models named after them in their homeland China. are to warships. You also know the Dynasty series in the Netherlands from the Han, the Tang and the here Atto 3, but in China called Yuan Plus, more compact crossover. As mentioned, the BYD Song L is an EV of the Dynasty series, so it is not surprising that the design of the front is optically closer to that of cars such as the Han and Tang than to that of the Seal.

But, what is the Song L? The BYD Song L is a 4.84 meter long, 1.95 meter wide and 1.56 meter low electric crossover whose appearance is somewhat reminiscent of cars such as the Kia EV6. So a low crossover, although the BYD Song L is longer than the aforementioned Kia. The wheelbase of the BYD Song L measures 2.93 meters. The car is on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, a modular EV base that is also used by cars such as the Dolphin and Seal. Detailed technical specifications are not yet released by BYD.

We are still awaiting a response from BYD on whether there are any plans to bring the Song L here as well.
