Chinese Build Your Dreams (BYD) is expanding its automotive dream realm into Europe. The brand comes with an electric version of its Tang SUV called. That Tang EV will probably also come in a facelifted form to the European mainland. AutoWeek can already show you the updated version from all angles.

The electric version of the BYD Tang is already in Norway for sale, but it seems that the electric SUV will not be sold in Europe in that form for long. From the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, we have found the first photos of the renewed Tang EV. That version is also coming to Europe. BYD has registered the design of the facelifted Tang EV at the European patent office, as evidenced by the patent plates that we can also show you. In addition, BYD also has an updated version of its Han EV destined for Europe in the barrel.

Although you may know BYD in the Netherlands mainly from the electric city buses, the brand is also a fairly large car manufacturer in China. BYD gave concrete form to its expansion drive by setting foot in Norway. The brand already sells an electric version of the Tang. It is the second generation of the Tang that debuted in China in 2018. That generation Tang is available with a conventional petrol engine, as a plug-in hybrid, but is also available with a fully electric powertrain. BYD plans to significantly expand its European presence. An updated version of the Tang can help with that.

The facelifted electric version of the BYD Tang that you see in these photos and patent plates mainly has a new front. Although the headlights do not appear to be changed, the rest is almost completely different. BYD seals the grille of the Tang EV and places on the more angular, more aggressive-looking but possibly closed ‘cooling openings’. With its closed front, the car can be recognized as an EV at a glance, which is what BYD is undoubtedly about. The 4.9-meter long Tang EV has a wheelbase of 2.82 meters and, according to information from the Chinese database, will receive 245 hp and 272 hp engine versions. Reportedly, BYD is also working on the technology of the car. The current Tang EV has a NEDC range of 565 kilometers as a front-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive version squeezes 505 kilometers from its 86 kWh battery. Don’t be surprised if the new versions go one step further.

Han EV

Build Your Dreams informed AutoWeek at the end of 2021 that it would soon reveal its plans for the Dutch market. At least on paper, the BYD Tang EV is an interesting model, although that also applies to the Han EV that BYD wants to bring to Europe. The Han EV also seems to be getting a facelift. We can also show you exclusive footage of the updated version of the Han EV. That car gets a subtly renewed front that optically matches that of the renewed Tang EV. In addition, BYD gives the back a fairly substantial refresh. Here BYD installs completely new taillights and pulls out the chrome strip between the units. BYD also has a version of the Han EV in the range called e9. It has a different and almost Audi-like front (photos 13 and 14) and retains the old rear. The e9 is a version of the Han EV specifically intended for car-sharing services.
