Canoo presents a new model, for the time being simply called ‘pick-up’. An extremely smart thing, fully electric and very strong.
To date, we mainly know Canoo as a young American brand that hopes to storm the American and international markets with the electric van MPDV in a few years’ time. Just another electric car start-up, you might think, but Canoo has the potential to become a major player. Hyundai stepped on board at Canoo for the further development of a modular EV platform that Canoo has already set up. In the long run that should also be used at Hyundai and Kia, but for now we focus on Canoos latest creation: this pick-up.
The external similarities with the MPDV are immediately visible, although the pick-up is relatively rounded and ‘conventional’ in shape. The latter is of course mainly in relation to the MPDV, because this pick-up is also a special appearance. The thing is thick 4.67 meters long, not even overly large, but can be up to 5.4 meters long thanks to a folding rear part of the loading floor. There are more smarts on board. For example, the Canoo has ‘drawers’ that come out of the bottom, panels that you can place in the cargo floor to create separate zones, the sides of the cargo box can be folded open for more convenient loading and finally there is also a cargo space in the nose. conjure up.
For the adventurer, the Canoo can be transformed into a camper. A complete superstructure can be put on the back to turn it into a kind of camper van and a roof tent can find a place on the roof. If you don’t have the tent on it, you can use the platform on the roof to carry extra luggage. Overloading is not an issue: the Canoo can handle more than 800 kilos. The drive is provided by one electric motor on the rear axle or two motors (front and rear). If you go for the latter option, you have 600 hp and 746 Nm of power at your disposal. Canoo reports a driving range of ‘more than 360 kilometers’ with a full battery, although that is still an own estimate.
All in all, it sounds very promising. In conversation with Reuters let the CEO of Canoo know that the pick-up should be on the market in the first quarter of 2023. However, Canoo will already be taking orders next quarter. It is not yet known what it will cost, we will probably hear that sometime in the coming months. Since Canoo has plans to sell outside of the US as well, this pick-up may just be heading our way.
