Car sales 2021 – A quarter fewer new cars in October!

To put it mildly, things are not going well with car sales on the Dutch market. In October, 24,240 new cars were registered, a decrease of 23.7 percent compared to the same month last year. Kia remains the market leader, but feels the hot breath of Volkswagen on its neck.

Car sales 2021 – A quarter fewer new cars in October!

Up to and including October 31, 2021, exactly 260,062 new cars have been registered in the Netherlands, according to figures from the Rai Association, Bovag and data agency RDC. That is 7.1 percent less than in the first ten months of 2020, when 279,992 copies were added to the vehicle registration register. Due to the worldwide corona outbreak, 2020 was a bad year for car sales. As it looks now, 2021 will be even more disastrous.

The consequences of the corona crisis are still being felt in the car industry. The shortage of semiconductors is now much more serious. Many car manufacturers are facing delivery problems this year. They can’t run the usual production because they don’t get enough chips. Several manufacturers have even had to temporarily shut down the assembly lines.
