Carrier pigeon on order: this is how you schedule a message on your iPhone

Do you want to schedule a message, for example to congratulate someone on their birthday at twelve o’clock sharp? With a small detour it is possible on your iPhone. So you don’t have to stay awake anymore!

Your iPhone’s Messages app doesn’t have this feature itself, but it is possible to have your text messages delivered by the carrier pigeon at a later time using another built-in app. This is of course about the Assignments app from Apple itself!

A mix of apps

If you think of something in the middle of the night and want to forward it via your iPhone, you can also simply schedule the message for the next morning. Your friends and relatives will surely thank you for not keeping them awake.

To do this, you need the Assignments app. This should already be installed on your iPhone, otherwise you can easily find it in the App Store. With the Assignments app, you can automate a lot of things, like having the weather read aloud when your alarm goes off.

iPhone: this is how you schedule messages

Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone and open the tab Automation. Then create a Personal automation at. Press Time of day and enter a time when the message should be sent. Then press Next one. Now press the plus sign and add Send Message up.

Top up Message Enter the text you want to send and choose Recipients who you want to send it to. Then press Next one and then on Ready. Once the time is reached, the message will be sent automatically. Scheduling messages on your iPhone works with WhatsApp in addition to the Messages app. Instead of Send Message then choose Send message via WhatsApp.

Pay attention here

Because it is an automation, the message from your iPhone will be sent every day at that time. That means you have to manually remove the automation again if you only want to send the message once.

If you find that too much hassle, you can still download an external app for your iPhone to do the same. The Scheduled app is a good choice for this. In addition to messages, you can also schedule emails with it. It also works with a lot of different messaging apps, such as iMessage, WhatsApp, Messenger and Telegram. Furthermore, Reminderbase and AutoSender are among the options.
